Mary Harris explains the earliest settlement in Idaho by Latter-Day Saints which occured in 1855 in Lemhi Valley, which at the time was part of the Oregon Terrritory. Later, in 1864, The territory became part of Idaho and in 1868, the eastern boundary of Idaho became a part of Wyoming. Very little settlement happened at this period of time and the area remained a wilderness inhabited primarily by other Indians and mountain men.
