Vol. 1 is predominatly about Mormons, giving history of Mormons from 1859 (from outsider's viewpoint). Vol. 2 includes travelers' accounts in Bk 4, chapter 1. Also includes material on Provo, Springville, Nephi, and Fillmore, as well as Salt Lake City. Bk 3 of vole 2 deals with doctrine of the Mormons and Mormon culture, from skeptic's point of view. Chapter 3 (pp. 174-22) deals with Mormon culture and practices, including education, Deseret Alphabet, and missions (each subject treated lightly). Chapter r (229-75) deals with Utah Territory, touching lightly on government, geography, climate, politics, and industry.
