The authors discuss the evolution of Mormon ritual healing from the founding of the Church through the Mormon settlement of the Great Basin. They describe the background of Christian ritual healing, and examine how this influenced ritual healing within the Church at its founding. The authors review the practice of anointing and sealing and conclude that the "most striking aspect of the Mormon healing liturgy is the adaptation of salvific rights to healing."
