This article discusses some of the struggles pioneer women had adjusting to their new environment. Women attempted to create yards and decorate their homes to make them more reminiscent of the homes they had left. They wove rugs from scraps of fabric, wrote home for seeds, and participated in social events such as barn-raisings.
