The author presents a brief overview of Smith family life from the marriage of Joseph Sr. and Lucy Mack in 1796 to the migration of the family to Palmyra in upstate New York about 1821. Behrens highlights the friends and relations the Smith family knew, and focuses on the dreams/visions of the Smith family and others of their acquiantance. The author concludes that the environment of dreams/visions that Joseph Smith grew up around prepared and inspired him for his prophetic role in life. Two charts of those people who had dreams/visions are included at the end of the article
