This article concerns the Old Testament Manuscript 3 (OT3) which John Whitmer transcribed from the originally dictated text of the Genesis translation. The OT3 contains several differences from the original copy. W. W. Phelps in Salt Lake City wrote John Whitmer in 1859 and requested a copy of the OT3. John Whitmer kept the copy throughout his life and left it to his family. It was then given to the RLDS Church in 1903. In 2005 Mark W. Holden purchased a copy of Joseph Smith's translation of Genesis and a revelation dated 1861. The translation appears to be a partial copy of OT3. The revelation seems to be written by John Whitmer and concerns punishment of the wicked. The complete text of this revelation is included in this article. Kent P. Jackson concludes that although John Whitmer was no longer part of the Church, he was still a believer in the restoration and Joseph Smith as its prophet.
