Steven C. Harper discusses the use of the term "Dives" in the original manuscript of the Doctrine and Covenants section 104:18. This term, meaning "wealthy" in Latin, was used in mediaeval and early Christianity as a proper name for the rich man in the Biblical parable about Lazarus, the poor beggar. When the revelation was published in the 1835 version of the Doctrine and Covenants, the term was changed to "wicked," but both the original and revised versions make it clear that the unrighteous rich who do not have charity for the poor will eternally regret their wickedness.
