After discussing the proof that the manuscripts and New Testaments used in the New Translation were marked and written during Joseph Smith's lifetime, Lambert and Wayment then discuss what these markings mean and how they originated. They show evidence that these markings were not made by later copyists, who instead made marks on their own transcriptions before printing and publication. They then discuss how Joseph Smith's system of marking and notation with pen in his Bible developed over his first few days of editing. A second system of pencil markings was also used.
