Woodger, using writings of George Albert Smith, his wife Lucy Woodruff Smith, and other associates of the Smiths, discusses the physical, mental, and emotional difficulties that plagued Apostle George Albert Smith during the 1909-12 time period. Different possible ailments that could have affected Smith are discussed. Woodger sees as the turning point in Smith's recovery his decision to turn over to the Lord the choice as to whether he should live or die. After this decision Smith recovered, and was willing to accept his continuing health limitations without becoming depressed, knowing that the Lord was in control of his life.
