These authors discuss baptisms for health in the Early LDS Church, which they state were on par with rebaptism for remission of sins in frequency of occurrence in the early church. These baptisms occurred in Kirtland, Nauvoo, and Utah, on the Mormon trail, and both in and outside of temples. In the late 1890s, rebaptism for the remission of all but the most serious of sins was discouraged, and subsequently baptisms for healing became less common, but still existed. In 1922 the Church Presidency issued a statement removing the ritual of baptism for healing from temples, encouraging members to seek healing in the form of priesthood blessings from local leaders.|Health
