The threefold purpose of this study was to determine: (1) the extent to which religion teachers at LDS Institutes of Religion and Brigham Young University were using the current Church Educational System instructional materials for scriptural courses; (2) their reasons for using or not using these materials; and (3) their views on the effectiveness or ineffectiveness of these materials. From the findings of this study, it was concluded that institute teachers used the instructional materials extensively, and that while BYU religion teachers seldom used the instructors' guides, they did use the student manuals extensively. It was determined that religion teachers not using the instructional materials were not familiar with them or felt they did not meet teacher and student needs. It was concluded that religion teachers who used the materials viewed them as effective instructional materials.
