The purpose of this study was to present a biography of Alma Heaton with emphasis on his professional contributions. This dissertation deals with Alma Heaton's early life and an analysis of his achievements and qualities. During his 26 years at Brigham Young University, Alma Heaton became a nationally and internationally famous dance and social recreation educator. Brigham Young University's dance department is now one of the finest collegiate programs in the world. The university's social and family recreation programs are considered among the best in the United States. Alma Heaton's leadership was instrumental in both of these programs. Awards, articles in prominent newspapers and magazines, and television programs on his life's work attest to the significance of his contributions.
