The authors performed a DNA test of descendents of Betsy Cattle Klingensmith and her sister Mary Cattle Bladen in order to determine if Betsy's oldest daughter, Priscilla, was in fact Klingensmith's biological child. It has been hypothesized that Priscilla was actually the daughter of Alexander Fancher and Eliza Ingram Fancher and thus the eighteenth child to have survived the Mountain Meadows Massacre. However, the results of the DNA test do not support this hypothesis but instead indicate that Priscilla was Klingensmith's child.
