This article discusses laws covering interracial marriage in the state of Utah, and, to some extent, in other states in the union. The author gives references to the Church influencing the Utah territorial legislature and later the state legislature. Some cases of interracial marriage and the legal outcome of those marriages are mentioned. The author concludes that the history of Utah's anti-miscegenation statute provides insight into social policy and legislation, and how it is shaped by interaction with local, regional, and national issues.
