While the doctrinal teachings of the prophets regarding Christ have been consistent throughout the history of the Church, an increasing emphasis on the Savior has recently been observed by many outside the Church. Joseph Smith taught the same doctrine about Christ that is currently taught in the Church; however, in the past, Church members have called attention to differences between traditional Christian theology and their own. Millet gives examples of statements by Church leaders about the cross and about the grace of God to demonstrate increased emphasis on Christ in recent decades and then cites enhanced scriptural understanding throughout the Church and members' responses to the world's misunderstanding of LDS theology as reasons for this increased emphasis.
