This chapter gives a brief overview of the religious history of Japan and how Christianity was introduced there. Latter-day Saint missionaries in Japan have never faced conflicts with the government or with religious liberty, but there has been a subtle foundation of anti-Christian feeling ever since the 1590's. Britsch focuses on some of these problems regarding the anti-Christian feelings.
