In discussing the history of the Salt Lake Tabernacle, Walker demonstrates the original need for such an edifice as well as the process of its construction. His primary focus, however, is on the Tabernacle's meetings, special events, and decorations, particularly in the late nineteenth century. Several documented reactions, both positive and negative, from visitors to the Tabernacle portray many of the commonplace characteristics of Mormon worship and culture. Among many topics presented are the Tabernacle's acoustics, podium, organ, and choir.
