[2009 Mormon Historical Association Winner for Article Award of Excellence]
The author discusses some of the works written by W. W. Phelps for Joseph Smith. This article also includes information on the use of foreign languages in the writings and speech of both Phelps and Joseph Smith. The author concludes that Smith often assigned topics to Phelps for his (Smith's) talks and writings, that both men had a strong interest in learning and using foreign languages, and that Phelps may have contributed to Smith's Egyptian Alphabet and Grammar book.
