Wesley, along with Gene England, was the first editor of Dialogue. He served as editor for six years while he taught at Stanford. He chronicles his educational and publishing experiences that led to his desire to establish this journal. He cites those who worked on the first issues and others who served as advisors. After he accepted a position at UC Santa Barbara, the journal moved to UCLA with Robert Rees as editor. Wesley feels that one of the greatest impacts of Dialogue was discovering new talent. In addition, it paved the way for other publications and "put to rest the old cliche that intellectuals were doomed to fall away from the Church."
