Grover gives the history of the Church in Latin America and outlines the Church's growth in this area. He explains the early challenges to growth and analyzes the rapid expansion over the last 40 years that has taken Latin America from 1% of the total Church membership to 37%. Changes in Latin America, both outside and inside the Church, have contributed to the phenomenal success. President David O. McKay helped the Church expand internationally by working to eliminate a distinction between the Church in "Zion" and in the "mission field," and the 1978 Revelation on the Priesthood contributed significantly to success rates, particularly in Brazil. Grover discusses the differences in growth between small and large countries and also describes the challenge of retention.
