Evan Pugh, an important educator and the first president of Pennsylvania State University, spent four years in the Church before leaving Nauvoo and Mormonism around the time of Joseph Smith's martyrdom. Pugh's Quaker family wrote six letters regarding his move to Nauvoo and later his leaving Mormonism. The letters are included in this article.
