This book combines history, personal narratives, and images which portray many Latter-day Saints' experiences in the Samoan Islands. The book is the 143 year long, unofficial history of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Samoan Islands beginning in 1862 and including up to 2005. Included along with the somewhat impersonal elements of the Church's history in Samoa are over 200 personal narratives, which reveal a wide range of thoughts, feelings, and experiences of some of the 6,000, plus individuals who have served missions and some of the nearly 900 individuals who have taught in Church schools in Samoa. The unique island context and people involved in this service are also illustrated through over 650 color, sepia tone, and black and white historical photos, diagrams, and paintings. Names of over 7,000 missionaries and Church school educators are included in the appendices along with individuals and couples who presided over the mission since 1888. All the pages in the book are visually enhanced with full color renderings of Samoan cultural artifacts and maps of Savai'i, Upolu, Tutuila, and Manu'a.
