Parley P. Pratt's words, "The Dawning of a Brighter Day," contain a theme common to pioneers throughout the Church's history--a theme which originated with the millenial hope of Joseph Smith. By teaching the Saints to build societies and to hope for freedom from persecution, Joseph was building a pioneer people long before their westward migration. Just as Joseph tried to bless all of humanity and embraced people of all faiths, the work of modern pioneers is to brighten whole communities, not simply their own Mormon congregations.
