About seven percent of Mormon emigrants used the Seminoe Cutoff as an alternate to Rocky Ridge. It has mostly been studied as a route used by east and westbound missionaries and smaller freighter companies, but new research has shown that larger emigrant companies also traveled on this trail. Bashore recounts some of the experiences of emigrants, missionaries, and militia men who used the cutoff, often encountering fierce weather on their journeys.
