Richard Lyman Bushman, author of Joseph Smith: Rough Stone Rolling, believes that understanding the cultural environment is crucial to understanding how the Restoration came about. Out of this belief was born the concept of "The Archive of Restoration Culture," an assemblage of source materials highlighting contemporaneous thought about important principles of the Restoration. In this article, he describes the construction of this massive research database. Included is examples from the Archive and a list of subjects and searchable terms. The database is available on the BYU Studies website (http://byustudies.byu.edu/Resources/arc.aspx).
