Stony Point is a place along the California Trail where "at least four separate 'Indian' attacks" occurred within a ten month period in 1856 and 1857. Barrett discusses the attacks including "evidence relating to white participants." He list Mormons as "possible suspects" of the attacks either as "raiders" seeking profit or due to the rising "anti-gentile paranoia" of the time.
