Alexander Niebuar was the "first known male Jewish convert to Mormonism." He joined the Church in 1838, immigrated to Nauvoo, and then to Salt Lake. He was a dentist and a matchmaker, but he also helped teach Joseph Smith German and Hebrew. Thirty years after his death he was praised and admired for his membership in the Church, but also for retaining his Jewish identity.
