Brigham Young, the second president of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, was born in Vermont in 1801. He grew up on a farm and there learned the value of hard work. Later, after marrying Miriam Works, he joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He remained faithful to the church and loyal to the Prophet Joseph Smith. Eventually Brigham was called to be a member of the Twelve Apostles and later the President of the Church. He successfully led the Saints in their western exodus, and established the church in Salt Lake City, Utah and the surrounding areas.
