June 13, 1850 to September 29, 1850. Young leaves Kanesville, Iowa for the Salt Lake Valley with William Snow/Joseph Young company. His entries are sparse, noting landmarks passed, place camped, and distance traveled. Occasionally, he records news about other companies.|February 16, 1864 to April 9, 1864. Young is chosen as the Church's agent to oversee immigration on East Coast, particularly New York. He records a blessing from his father, Brigham Young, before taking the stagecoach to Omaha, Nebraska. He travels with H.B. Clawson, and his brother Joseph W. Young. Upon his arrival, Young moves the Church's outfitting station from Omaha to Nebraska City. He continues on to St. Louis, noting the devastation caused by Civil War. He fails in his mission to buy wagons and choose to go on to Chicago, where he signs a contact with a local wagon-maker to make enough wagons for next year's immigrants. Young continues on to New York City, recording his impression of the city and visiting P.T. Barnum's sideshow. He negotiates with the railroads for discounted tickets for immigrants before sailing to Liverpool, where he works on securing ship passage for immigrants to Utah.
