February 27, 1846 to May 7, 1846. Wells leaves Nauvoo, crossing over the Mississippi River to Sugar Creek, Iowa. She travels with her friend and stepdaughter Sarah Ann Whitney Kimball. Wells notes the weather, traveling conditions, and the birth of Sarah Ann's son before the two arrive at Mt. Pisgah. At the end of the volume are several entries from February 20, 1845 to March 24, 1845 in poetry form, lamenting her sorrowful state, and her loneliness and longing for the husband she believes abandoned her.
