March 28, 1852 to 1868. Thomas provides a long list of church meetings he attends, with an occasional note of money raised for missionaries or a faith healing. He leaves England on the Clara Wheeler, but the voyage is troubled by a measles outbreak which kills 21 children. Thomas reaches St. Louis where he settles before serving a short mission. He moves on to Florence, Nebraska before crossing the Plains the next spring. Thomas moves to Hyde Park, Utah where he builds a house. He is sealed to his first wife and takes another, but Mormon crickets devastate his crops and his first wife dies. The last entry records Thomas' intent to continue to fight the crickets.
