In 1968, Egyptologist Klaus Baer translated the Joseph Smith Papyri from photographs of those documents published in the Improvement Era. Vastly improved photographs of these documents have lately been published. In the light of this, Ritner reassessed Baer's translation and found nothing to challenge Baer's basic understanding of the text. It remains a funerary text known as a "Book of Breathings" copied for a Theban priest named Hor. Ritner's translation is printed. Photographs of the documents are appended at the end of the article.
