Traces the life and career of Samuel W. Taylor (1907-97), a successful freelance writer of Westerns, sport stories, action fiction, mysteries, and fantasies. Taylor grew up in a boardinghouse environment after the death of his father in 1916. While studying at Brigham Young University, he became well-known for his columns in the student newspaper. The late 1930's and early 1940's was a time of prosperity after Taylor began selling stories to Colliers and other high-paying magazines. He was inducted into the Army in 1943, and after arriving in England was transferred to the Army Public Relations Office. Following the war, he was offered a job by Walt Disney and worked on the movie script for The Absent-Minded Professor. While Taylor mainly wrote about Mormons for the outside world, his Family Kingdom and Heaven Knows Why won praise from Mormons as well.
