The writings of two Mexican Nahua authors, Margarito Bautista Valencia and Agricol Lozano Herrera, are analyzed. Neither were professional historians and their historical writing has generally been ignored by New Mormon historians. In fact, the writings of both authors are very different from New Mormon History conventions in many ways. They are unique in that they center "Mormonism's past, present, and future in Mexico - not in the United States." The author argues for inclusion of these amateur histories by Indians from Mexico so as not to "perpetuate the colonial legacy of the suppression of indigenous voices in Mormon historiography."
