The Quorum of the Anointed (or Holy Order) was established by Joseph Smith in Nauvoo in 1842. It existed and operated for three and a half years. This article analyzes the individuals who were members and the evolution and purpose of the Quorum over time. It seems to have had principally a spiritual purpose. At the meetings, they held prayer circles, performed marriage sealings, and other rituals later performed in the temple. Tables show family relationships between Joseph and other quorum members, and plural marriage and second anointings among quorum members during Joseph Smith's lifetime. Some of the agenda topics and frequency of meetings are overviewed and described.
