4 August 1853 to 24 August 1853. Cipriani and his traveling companions leave their wagon company and goes to Fort Bridger, Wyoming. They travel to Salt Lake City and have to hide from a band of Indians in Echo Canyon. Cipriani spends the night with an Italian family, then John Taylor gives him a tour of Salt Lake City. Cipriani has dinner with Taylor's family and discusses polygamy and Church government with him. After attending a play, Cipriani continues his journey to California via Ogden.
