February 5, 1844 to January 25, 1846. Lee works as a guard, worker, and recorder at the Nauvoo Temple, noting the endowments, sealings, and adoptions of his friends and family. As a guard, he is present when several marshals attempt to serve Brigham Young and the other apostles with writs and search the Temple in an effort to do so. Lee also notes lighter moments such as dances, and preparations for the trek west, including the discussion of California travel guides.
