February 25, 1869 to March 12, 1869. Woolley makes lengthy daily entries as he leaves his home in St. George, Utah, tracking a small group of Navajo suspected of stealing horses and cattle from the Mormon settlers in Southern Utah. Entries usually included the overall landscape, landmarks passed, and the weather if unusual. The journal ends when Woolley and his expedition give up and return home empty-handed.
