1865-1891. In 1865, Hansen, a resident of Spanish Fork, Utah, is called on a mission to Denmark through a letter sent by Brigham Young. Hansen gives an account of his trip accross the plains. He arrives in Liverpool on August 11, 1865, having traveled on the steamship North America. He arrives in Copenhagen on August 20, 1865. He recounts his missionary activities in Denmark. He leaves Denmark in June 1867. He describes conditions on board the Manhattan. He observes the festivities in New York City on July 4, 1867. He travels by railroad and steamship to North Platte, Nebraska. He leaves for Utah by mid-August and arrives in Salt Lake City on October 5, 1867. On October 9, he returns home to Spanish Fork. Hansen records his plural marriages, births and deaths of his children, and his participation in the School of the Prophets. On October 19, 1878, Hansen leaves Spanish Fork for another mission to Denmark. Hansen briefly describes his trip east. He leaves New York on board the steamship Wyoming on October 29, 1878. He arrives in Copenhagen on November 20, 1878. Hansen provides detailed entries for his missionary activities. He leaves Copenhagen on September 30, 1879. He arrives in New York on October 15, 1879. Hansen begins recording again in January 1881 when he is set apart as a missionary in Utah County. On January 19, 1881, Hansen holds a testimony meeting with his family, and he blesses his children. On March 29, 1884 Hansen becomes the president of the 19th Quorum of Seventies. He travels with Brigham Young to Sanpete County. In February 1885, Hansen does work for his ancestors in the Logan Temple. On May 26, 1885, Hansen leaves for a third mission to Denmark. He describes his railroad trip east. He leaves New York on baord the Wisconsin on June 1, 1885. He arrives in Copenhagen on June 27. Hansen describes his mission, including harassment by police. In June 1888, Hansen sails from Liverpool on board the steamship Wisconsin. He travels by train from Norfolk, Virginia to Salt Lake City. Upon his return, Hansen is arrested for practicing plural marriage, but since his wives are dispersed to various locations and he only lives with one wife, he is released. He travels to Logan to do temple work in February 1890 and again in February 1891.
