September 1884 to January 1886. Much of Guymon's journal is devoted to recording the deterioration of his son Heber's health. Guymon lives in Mancos, Montezuma County, Colorado and notes that he travels to Durango to do any important business, such as taking his son to the doctor or transporting goods. Heber asks if his mother will be waiting for him when he dies. Initially, Guymon is not entirely sure, though he later affirms his son's question. Guymon briefly notes when Heber passes away. Guymon mentions that he would dig the Mormon graveyard in Mancos, in which Heber was buried. He stops keeping a journal because he feels his writing is too melancholy.
