May 9, 1901 to July 25, 1903. In May 1901, Anthon H. Lund sets Fife apart as a missionary, and Fife leaves shortly thereafter. He describes everyday missionary experiences, such as tracting and preaching. He mentions listening to a socialist speaker. Fife spends time sight-seeing. Much of the journal is devoted to his traveling between Oregon towns. Fife debates with a Salvation Army officer on the saving ordinances of the gospel. He mentions a July 24 celebration in Portland Heights.
