18 November 1849 to 18 January 1850. Egan and ten others leave Provo, Utah and struggle through muddy roads and storms. He describes the distances traveled, the state of their campsites and the availability of feed. He refers to creeks by number rather than name and faces snowy weather. Indians steal four animals from Egan's company, three of which are retrieved. He reaches the Williams Ranchero near Los Angeles, California is resupplied by Elder Charles C. Rich and continues on towards the goldfields.
