Catherine (Cassie) Bishop Kelley was the wife of Edmund L. Kelly, an Elder and Bishop of the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. The author uses a small collection of Cassie's letters, written from her home, to describe what life was like for her and the role she played in her Church and community during the nine years that she lived in Kirtland, Ohio. Because her husband traveled often, Cassie was frequently left with the responsibilities of providing for her young family, managing a hotel, leading tours and managing the upkeep and use of the Kirtland Temple, and ministering to the community.
