Although Martin Harris lived in Kirtland, Ohio, for almost forty years, little is known about his activities while living there. This article documents his religious instability. After the death of Joseph Smith, he joined various schismatic movements including James J. Strang, David Whitmer, Gladden Bishop, William Smith, and others. In 1870, he accompanied Edward Stevenson to Utah where he lived until his death, reaffirming his fundamental beliefs in Mormonism.
