Many Christian missionaries were intrigued by the Waldensian claims to have descended directly from the primitive church and to have retained the New Testament church in its true form. Lorenzo Snow established the first Italian mission among the Waldensians in the Kingdom of Sardinia. This paper gives a brief history of the Waldensians and traces the evolution of their ancient-origins thesis throughout the past millenium, concluding that the thesis is no longer accepted by the majority of Christian denominations. Christian missionary efforts among the Waldensians are discussed, particularly those of the LDS Church, Seventh-Day Adventists, and Jehovah's Witnesses.
