Originally called the "Paria Crossing," Lee's Ferry played an important role in early colonizing efforts in Utah and Arizona. Named after John D. Lee, who was asked by Church officials to establish and operate a ferry that could be used by colonizing missionaries, Lee's Ferry is preserved today as a national historic site.
