"The principal aim of this dissertation is to describe and analyze the ethical and moral teachings of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (the 'LDS Church'), and the process by which those teachings come forth. A further aim is to compare the process and outcome with other religious traditions and secular schools of thought. Chapter One introduces information about the growth and influence of the Church and the Church's employment of the unique LDS concept of revelation. The second chapter deals with the relationship between religion and morality in general and how it specifically relates to the LDS Church. Chapter Three focuses attention on specific social ethical teachings on abortion, euthanasia, capital punishment, and just war. The fourth chapter deals with social ethical issues as they relate to gender and the family, and the fifth chapter has to do with social ethical teachings on economics. The concluding chapter addresses reason and revelation in the Church. The methodology employed is a critical analysis of all available authoritative LDS sources from the inception of the Church to the present with an eye to a full understanding of the teachings of the LDS Church on ethics and morality. Additional credible non-LDS sources are used for analytical and comparative purposes." (author's abstract)
