Arrington examines the stresses and unique situations which families encountered by being associated with the LDS Church in the 19th century. This includes having to leave family members in order to gather, going through persecution together, persevering while the husband was on a mission, and plural marriage. He also briefly gavies a 20th century update on the status of the family in the church.
