"With the publication of the personal papers, diaries, letters, and sermons of Joseph Smith by Dean C. Jessee, Andrew F. Ehat, and Lyndon W. Cook, historians have become cognizant that the Prophet revealed much about himself, his feelings, attitudes, even his deep spirituality. Thus, though the flame of his life was snuffed out more than 148 years ago, it is possible for modern Latter-day Saints to become intimately acquainted with the martyred leader. In this paper, I will detail the last few days in the Prophet’s life, focusing on his thoughts and feelings and what they reveal about him as a person as he confronted his imminent death." [Author]
