Geary says that as settlements in Utah spread, in the late 1870s, to the Colorado Plateau in Eastern Utah, they followed the same settlement patterns of early communities. He divides the history of Huntington, one of the final settlements, into developmental periods, then describes a long period of decline consisting of two stages, characterized by outmigration of younger people as well as older residents, from about 1910 to 1970. The trend is now reversing itself.
